Alastair Cook hit his first century of 2018 in commanding fashion yesterday as he continued his preparations for the forthcoming Test series against India.
The 33-year-old brought up his ton from 173 balls and finished 154 not out on the first day of the Lions four-day match versus India A in Worcester.
It was the 62nd century of the Essex left hander’s career and his first since England’s Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne last year.
Cook opened the batting with Rory Burns who fell for just 5, but found good company in both Nick Gubbins (73) and Dawid Malan (59*) as the Lions ended the first day in a strong position on 310-2.
He controlled the bowling of Navdeep Saini, Ankit Rajpoot, Mohammed Siraj, Shahbaz Nadeem and Jayant Yadav well in his six-hour innings, in which he hit 22 boundaries, and will look to build on his score later today.
