Essex County Cricket Club are pleased to announce that opening bowler, Jamie Porter, has signed a contract extension that will keep him at The Cloudfm County Ground until at least the end of the 2024 season.
The 28-year-old has taken 408 wickets across all formats since breaking into the First Team during the 2014 season. 356 of his wickets have come in red-ball cricket, with Porter playing an integral role in the Club’s recent success.
The Leytonstone-born bowler was named as one of Wisden’s Cricketers of the Year in 2018 after guiding Essex to a first Championship title in 25 years, taking 85 wickets at an average of 16.74.
Upon signing his new contract, Porter said: “I’m really pleased to have committed my future to the Club and it was a really easy decision for me to make.
“Essex is a Club with a rich history and Chelmsford is a great place to play your cricket. We have a unique relationship with the Members and the fans, and we’re all pulling together to achieve the same goals.
“We’ve won a few trophies over recent years and it’s a shame we haven’t been able to add to that this season, but everybody in the dressing room is already looking ahead to 2022 and back competing for the major honours.
“I want to win more trophies and I know when we play to the best of our ability, we’re good enough to beat any side in the country. Hopefully next year we’ll be able to bring some more silverware back to Chelmsford.”
