Essex Over 50s reached the semi-final stages of the ECB 50+ County Championship following a comfortable seven-wicket victory over their Bedfordshire counterparts at Broxbourne Cricket Club.
Essex’s success was highlighted by Giles Ecclestone, who score a quite brilliant 121 off 123 balls, helping the hosts chase down Bedfordshire’s competitive 207/6.
Earlier, Ian Horton scored 66, Steve Litchfield 53 and Naeem Khan 46 for the visitors. Mel Hussain returned figures of 2/25 from five overs for the home side, while Chirag Desai took 2/31 from nine overs.
Wicket-keeper batter, Charlie Knightley contributed a useful 31 to Essex’s victory, while skipper, Mel Hussain was unbeaten on 26 at the conclusion.
