Match Report:

Despite a century from Ben Allison, Essex’s second string slipped to a narrow 27-run Second XI T20 South Group defeat to their Hampshire counterparts at the Ageas Bowl.

Allison scored exactly one hundred off 53 balls during a 50-minute stint with the bat. His innings included no less than none 4s and seven 6s. Scott Currie returned figures of three for 25 from his four-overs spell, while Ian Holland took 2/37 off four.

However, with those around the Colchester-born right-hander falling cheaply, the visitors fell frustratingly short of the home side’s modest 201 for six.

Earlier, Hants skipper Nick Gubbins and Joe Weatherley each contributed 45 to the home side’s total. Jamie Porter and Saud Munir took two wickets apiece for Essex, while Allison and Eshun Kalley also tasted success with the ball.
