Falcons Ability team prepare for D40 Pursuit Final

The Essex Falcons Ability team will play in the D40 Pursuit National Final at Collingham and District Cricket Club in Newark-on-Trent on Sunday at 1pm.

The unbeaten Falcons topped the competition’s South Group, seeing off Middlesex, Surrey, Northamptonshire, and Hampshire/Dorset, and will now face Wales, winners of the North Group, for the chance to be national champions.

Having originally been set up as a development side, the team are into their fifth year and are now firmly established in the D40 Pursuit League.

Team Manager Pat Ward said, “This is a great occasion for the team and shows how far they have come in a short space of time. This year the team have been fantastic, always putting in 100% and able to take on any challenge put to them.

“It’s been a great team performance with some top class bowling and strong fielding being the key that has got us to the final. Hopefully we can keep it going and finish the season on a high, but either way the players can be proud of what they have achieved this year.”

There are two other Essex Ability teams playing in the ECB Disability County Championship, with the Hawks part of the D40 Quest League and the Kestrels plying their trade in the Super 9s League.

The Kestrels narrowly finished second to the Isle of Wight after their final match on the 20 August at Northwood CC, while the Hawks took sixth position in their division, in between Hampshire and Surrey.
