Noah Thain pens new rookie contract

Essex Cricket is pleased to announce that young all-rounder Noah Thain has signed a new rookie contract, tying him to the Club until the end of the 2024 season.

Thain, 18, extends his existing deal which he signed in May, after a productive campaign in the Metro Bank One Day Cup that saw him amass 159 runs in six matches at an average of 39.75.

His top score of 75 not out, made against Leicestershire Foxes, was one of two half-centuries he hit in the competition, precipitating a call-up to England Under-19s for five Youth ODIs against Australia.

Thain also made an impression in the red-ball arena this summer, making his first-class debut against Ireland just two days after signing his first rookie deal.

He would go on to appear internationally in that format too, playing both of England Under-19s’ Youth Tests in September, once more against Australia, with the second match seeing him strike a fluent 88.

Having signed on the dotted line, Thain said: “It means a lot. Having come through the academy, it was great to have a good season this summer and I’m hoping to be able to kick on now.

“The badge means so much, and the opportunity to represent this county is really special.”

Essex Head Coach, Anthony McGrath, added: “It’s vindication of everything we try to do in relation to scouting, the academy, and player development when we get to this point with young, local cricketers.

“Everyone connected with the entire player pathway here can be very proud of the efforts they’ve put in to help Noah reach this stage, but more than anything, so can Noah himself.

“He is already raring to go for 2024 and build on what was a superb season for him individually, and we’re excited to see what that combination of motivation and skill can produce!”
