Essex Women enjoy induction day to elite facilities at the University of Essex

Preparations for the professional Essex Women to make their 2025 debut took another step forward this week, as the team visited the training and analytical facilities at the University of Essex.

The squad, led by Team Director Andy Tennant and Performance Director Danni Warren, toured the Colchester campus that will serve as the Eagles’ training base.

The facilities are currently used by the Essex Rebels men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams, who will work in partnership with the Eagles to incorporate learnings across all areas.

Among the stops visited were the state-of-the-art Performance, Analysis, and Coaching Room (PACR), as well as the Essex Sport Arena, the home court of the Rebels teams.

Further collaboration with the Rebels was also on show, with the Eagles taught basketball lay-ups and free throws and volleyball serves by their counterparts.

They were then able to put those into practice, taking on an intra-squad challenge in both disciplines that saw Flo Miller win in volleyball and Kelly Castle emerge triumphant in basketball.

“The facilities at the University are fab,” said Tennant. “It’s great to have a partnership with the University, and I think it gives us a bit of a competitive edge moving forward.

“We’re really excited to be part of this partnership, and speaking to the basketball and volleyball coaches – just chewing the fat, it’s been brilliant.

“Understanding what they do from a performance analysis point of view, especially with match-ups, is really useful, so we’re just excited to get going.”
