Essex Women have continued the recruitment drive ahead of the debut professional season next summer by adding bowler Esmae MacGregor to their ranks.
The 20-year-old, who has represented Essex since 2021, becomes the 11th player to transition from the Sunrisers to the new-look Eagles side.
MacGregor has played eight List A matches for the regional team and 12 T20 matches for Essex, claiming 17 wickets across both formats. Her impressive T20 statistics include an average of 16.23 and a strike rate of 17.15. She made her T20 debut at just 16 years old in a Vitality Women’s County T20 match against Sussex in April 2021.
A standout performance came the following year in the same competition, where she recorded career-best figures of 2/5 in three overs against Northamptonshire.
MacGregor will be balancing her final year University commitments next season ahead of becoming a full-time cricketer once she has completed her studies.
After putting pen to paper on a deal with Essex, MacGregor said: “I’m delighted to sign for Essex ahead of the 2025 season for this exciting new chapter.
“Having come through the Essex pathway system and represented the women’s team previously, it’s an incredible opportunity to step up and contribute to the team’s success in our debut season as a professional side.
“After coming through the pathway system at the Club, it’s a really exciting opportunity and I can’t wait to carry on my journey with Essex.”
“The Club have supported me with my plans to balance cricket and my University commitments, but I’m fully committed to giving my all on and off the field. I can’t wait to get started and help build something special with this talented group of players.”
