Champions Essex Kestrels suffered a rare S9 Regional South East defeat as hosts Isle of Wight won a well-contested encounter by 24 runs at Northwood Cricket Club.

The home side posted 204 for five, with opening batter Declan Whittington scoring 51 off 86 balls before retiring not out. Meanwhile, Chris Hebberd contributed an unbeaten 29* to the Isle of Wight tally.

Charlie Stack returned bowling figures of 4-0-29-2 for the visitors, while Bradley Barker and Alex Myles were also amongst the wickets.

Essex did their utmost to chase down their target. Amara Law top scored with 35, while there were contributions from Al Maxin (19) and S Denham (15). However, their efforts, on this occasion, were in vain. Earley, B Jude and Halson took two wickets apiece for the triumphant hosts.
