Essex Cricket can reveal the shortlist for May’s Player of the Month, for both the Men’s and Women’s teams.
May has been a busy month for both teams, with not only the continuation of the Women’s One Day Cup and Men’s County Championship, but also the first Vitality Blast matches. We’ve seen countless wickets taken, boundaries hit and thousands of runs made.
Just as in April, we want to hear from you. Who are your standout players this month? Let us know by scrolling down and choosing your favourites for the wefinanceanycar.com Men’s award and the Tiptree Women’s award.
The winning players will be announced on Thursday 12 June at the double-header at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground and two lucky entrants will win a pair of tickets to this match. In addition, each winner will either win a Tiptree hamper or a Rothesay County Championship shirt signed by the men’s First Team squad.
Vote before midday Tuesday 10 June to be in with a chance of being one of our two lucky winners!

The Contenders
Simon Harmer
Wicket taking is what Harmer does best! Taking wickets in every game this month, he is a force to be reckoned with. In the first game of the month he took eight wickets, almost half of his eighteen total. He’s stopped the likes of Bairstow and Burns from continuing in the field. His undeniably incredible off-spin technique is the reason that his teammates are able to take so many catches.

Michael Pepper
Pepper has been on fire this month with both the bat and the gloves. Our wicket keeper has had twelve wicket involvements, including five catches in an innings against Worcestershire. With the bat, Pepper has proven he can play with the best of them. His three half-centuries (68 – Yorkshire, 75 – Surrey, 51 – Hampshire) have contributed to his monthly total of 257 runs.

Jamie Porter
Porter has bowled some amazing innings in May. His best coming against Surrey in their second innings and taking a five-wicket haul (on top of his two wickets in the previous innings). Wicket taking isn’t the only strength of the right-arm medium bowler. His bowling economies have been incredible, averaging 2.99 an innings

Jo Gardner
Gardner has had some incredible batting stints in the past month. Most notably, her 73* against Surrey and 64 against Yorkshire. Getting boundaries was also no challenge for the all-rounder who hit fourteen 4s and eight 6s in May.

Esmae MacGregor
MacGregor’s wicket taking has been nothing short of consistently impressive this month. The bowler’s best figures were 42-3 (off 7 overs) against The Blaze in the One Day Cup competition. The right-arm medium bowler took 10 wickets across all formats coming from catches.

Grace Scrivens
In May, Scrivens has lead the team to their first victories of the season. On top of these victories, Scrivens is the first professional female player to become a double centurion for Essex. These came against The Blaze and Hampshire making 120* and 101 (respectively).
