Essex sign Curtis Campher

Essex Cricket are pleased to announce the signing of Ireland international all-rounder Curtis Campher on a short-term deal.

Campher, 26, has agreed to join Essex Men on a deal which will see him in Essex colours for three Metro Bank One Day Cup fixtures.

The Irish all-rounder will join up with Tom Huggins’ group this week ahead of the home fixture against Surrey on Friday 15 August. Campher will then be available for the two Sunday fixtures proceeding Surrey – Leicestershire Foxes (A) on Sunday 17 August and Gloucestershire (H) on Sunday 24 August. He will be unavailable for the home match against Glamorgan on Wednesday 20 August.

Curtis made his ODI debut in 2020 at Southampton against England where he scored an unbeaten 59* from 118 balls batting at number seven and took 1/26 off five overs. Since then, the right handed batter and seam bowler has chalked up a total of 43 ODIs for Ireland.

A genuine right-handed all-rounder, Campher has scored over a thousand ODI runs at an average of 33.72 and a high-score of 120 from 35 innings.

In 36 innings with the ball in hand, Campher has taken 32 wickets at an average of 34.43 with best bowling figures of 4/37.

On signing for the Club, Campher said: “I am thrilled to be joining Essex for some white ball action. I love county cricket and when I was presented with the opportunity I didn’t have to think twice.

“Chelmsford is a cracking ground and I am very confident I can contribute with bat and ball to help get some wins for the team.

“I know how passionate and loyal the Essex fans are and I can guarantee you will get nothing less than 100% from me each game.”

Essex Batting Coach, Tom Huggins, said: “We’re really happy to bring Curtis into the group.

“It goes without saying that we currently have a small pool of players to choose from, especially after some injuries and needed rest periods so it’s important that we recruit wisely.

“Curtis brings a wealth of experience, both domestically and internationally. Although he’s here for a short period, I’m sure he will have a positive impact on our squad.”
