Tom Westley and Jordan Cox named in PCA Team of the Month

Essex Cricket duo Tom Westley and Jordan Cox have been named in the PCA MVP Team of the Month for August.

The men’s and women’s MVP Teams of the Month for August have been selected based on the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX, with an Essex representation in the men’s team through Westley and Cox.

Using the MVP’s unique algorithms, players have been selected based on their excellent contributions with the bat, ball and in the field across the month of August in The Hundred and the Men’s Metro Bank One Day Cup. These teams are the penultimate iteration of PCA’s Team of the Month for the current domestic season.

Following Oval Invincibles hat-trick of titles, the side see four players represented in the men’s Team of the Month for August with returning batter Jordan Cox as captain. The 24-year-old, who was named as The Hundred Men’s Player of the Year secured the most MVP points with 159.89. The Hundred winner is joined by teammates Sam Curran, Rashid Khan and Jason Behrendorff.

The side’s batting is strengthened by some excellent performances in the One Day Cup with both Hampshire and Essex captains Nick Gubbins and Tom Westley finding a place along with Yorkshire opener Imam-ul-Haq. The latter ended the month as the leading run-scorer in the competition having scored 688 runs.

Gubbins, meanwhile, was the second-highest run-scorer with 669 runs at an average of 95.57 while Westley put 561 runs on the board over the course of the One Day Cup averaging 70.12.
