As part of our 150th Anniversary celebrations, Essex Cricket hosted a special event at City Hall in the London Borough of Newham.
The prestigious evening celebrated 150 years of cricketing heritage, community impact, and future ambition, bringing together former players, current leaders and staff members, partners, community representatives, and invited guests from across the community.
Hosted by Mark Church, the event opened with a welcome from Chief Executive Officer Dan Feist, followed by Head of Networks Ben Wallis. This led into a four-person panel featuring Chairs from East London cricket clubs: Ilford Cricket Club, Frenford Cricket Club, Wanstead & Snaresbrook Cricket Club, and Buckhurst Hill Cricket Club. This was followed by a panel discussion focusing on the growth of community programmes, before turning attention to emerging cricket clubs.
A History of East London & Essex panel featured former Essex and England greats, including Club Ambassador Graham Gooch OBE, Club President John Lever MBE, and Devon Malcolm OBE. The panel reflected on the Club’s rich past, memorable matches, and the importance of Essex Cricket’s history, as well as its long-standing impact on cricket in East London.
The evening concluded with a Future Players panel discussion featuring Director of Cricket Chris Silverwood, Women’s Performance & Growth Director Danni Warren, Essex Women’s Batting Lead & Assistant Coach Nick Browne, and former Essex wicket-keeper Robert Rollins, who now leads his own cricket academy.
