Essex Women all-rounders Jodi Grewcock and Sophia Smale have been nominated for the PCA Player of the Month for April.

Essex Women dominate the PCA Player of the Month shortlist for April, with Jodi Grewcock and Sophia Smale taking two of the four spots.

PCA Player of the Month is back for the new domestic season with eight top performing players for you to vote for in April’s awards. The top four men’s and women’s domestic players have been announced using the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX, with two prizes to be decided through your votes and the MVP.

The beginning of the season in the men’s and women’s game has seen some fantastic individual performances, resulting in some high MVP points scoring. Grewcock, 21, accumulated over a century of MVP points with 106.84 whilst Smale, also 21, accumulated 58.38 points.

With a maiden professional century and an England ODI call-up under her belt, Grewcock’s 321 runs at an average of exactly 107 have given her an incredibly impressive start to the season.

The left-hand batter has won two Match MVPs for Essex Women, with two half-centuries to back up her game-winning unbeaten 120 from 116 balls against Somerset, a performance that earned her 44.97 MVP points.

Taking five wickets, three catches and scoring 108 runs at an average of 36, Smale has been an outstanding all-round performer for Essex Women so far this season.

Securing a Match MVP performance in her game against Warwickshire, the all-rounder made key contributions, with an unbeaten 28 and 1-32 off eight overs, including the crucial dismissal of Davina Perrin for 43.

Women's Player of the Month Nominees:

Jess Jonassen (Yorkshire)
Jodi Grewcock (Essex)
Danni Wyatt-Hodge (Surrey)
Sophia Smale (Essex)

The PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by OFX, picks out the game’s top performers across every single fixture. This then forms the rankings for each competition, as well as an overall table which is how the top four are selected. The MVP takes into account batting, bowling and fielding contributions and match defining achievements using a unique live algorithm developed by CricViz.

The PCA Player of the Month will be decided by a 50:50 split between the PCA MVP Rankings and the public vote on thepca.co.uk – the poll will close on Friday 1 May at 10pm.

Well done Jodi and Sophia!
