Essex Cricket can reveal the shortlist for August’s Player of the Month for the Men’s and Women's teams.

What a month August was! Countless half-centuries, centuries and wickets from the Essex players. Essex Women made their first ever Finals Day in the Vitality T20 Women's County Cup and Essex Men battled it out in the second half of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

THE CONTENDERS

MATT CRITCHLEY

Matt Critchley is Essex Men’s highest run scorer this month. The all-rounder made 347 runs over the six matches, averaging 57.83 a match. Critchley began the month with an impressive 102 not out. Matt then went onto hit a 50 and 94 in the four-day match against Somerset. With the ball, Critchley has taken one wicket, an LBW, and been on the end of five catches.

DEAN ELGAR

Dean Elgar has had some amazing innings this month with the bat. Elgar smashed a half-century in the second innings down at Taunton. The opening batter then went on to further his total runs of the season with a century against Surrey. Dean whacked an incredible 113 runs off 191 deliveries. In the innings, he hit 15 boundaries.

SIMON HARMER

Simon Harmer has been a force to be reckoned with when bowling this month. Harmer has taken 10 wickets across the eight innings. The vast range of dismissals, showing just how versatile a bowler Simon is. The spinner’s best figures came against Surrey where he took 3-93 off 38 overs with an economy of 2.42. Overall, Simon averaged a bowling economy of 5.55 in 111.3 overs.

NOAH THAIN

Noah Thain has been unstoppable in the Metro Bank One Day Cup again this month! The 21-year-old made three back-to-back half centuries with 75, 76 and 76 in the first matches of the month. Thain is no stranger to hitting a boundary, smashed the ball over the rope 37 times over six innings. In the field, Noah took a catch to dismiss Worcestershire Rapids Men’s captain Jake Libby.

JODI GREWCOCK

Jodi Grewcock has once again had a brilliant month. In just three matches, the all-rounder made 149 runs off 145 deliveries. This included 19 boundaries. When bowling, Jodi averaged an economy of 3.94 over the two innings. The leg-spinner took three wickets in August, two caught and one caught behind. Grewcock was also on the end of a catch to dismiss Mabel Reid of Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women.

SOPHIA SMALE

Sophia Smale has impressed with both the bat and ball this month. Smale started the month with an amazing 83 runs off 101 balls against Somerset. She was her first half-century of the season. Sophia has been involved with three wickets across the three games. One of these was when she bowled May Drinkell out for seven, the others were when she was involved in run outs.

GRACE SCRIVENS

Grace Scrivens led her team to the Vitality T20 Women's County Cup Finals Day. She also contributed to the win against Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women by hitting a half century! She whacked 51 not out off 56 balls in the quarter-final, which included six 4s. With the ball, Scrivens bowled 7.3 overs for 60 runs.
