Jamal Richards crowned as July’s wefinanceanycar.com Player of the Month

Your votes have crowned all-rounder Jamal Richards as the wefinanceanycar.com Player of the Month for July.

Richards, 20, earned 38.7% of the vote in a poll on the Essex Cricket website, finishing ahead of Michael Pepper’s 22.1%, while Charlie Allison and Luc Benkenstein picked up 21.7% and 17.4%, respectively.

The seam-bowling all-rounder took five wickets in three Metro Bank One Day Cup matches at the end of the month, including a brace against last year’s champions Leicestershire Foxes.

His two wickets in that match included Indian international Ajinkya Rahane, a man with almost 3,000 ODI runs, with an unerringly accurate line and length delivery caught behind by Simon Fernandes.

Richards, an alumni of Norlington School, the same as Graham Gooch, took those five scalps at an average of 23.60 and bowled an economy rate of just 5.09 per over.

The next wefinanceanycar.com Player of the Month vote will be for performances in August and will follow in early September, on the Essex Cricket website and across social media channels.
