Essex County Cricket Club are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former Club Assistant Secretary, David Collier.

David supported all levels of the game and served as Essex Cricket’s Assistant Secretary during the 1980s and had a close connection with Colchester Cricket Club.

Following his time at the Club, David moved on to the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), where he served as the organisation’s second Chief Executive. He was at the helm of the ECB from 2004 to 2014, following earlier work with Essex, Leicestershire, Gloucestershire, and Nottinghamshire.

During David’s tenure at the ECB, England Men won the Ashes four times, while England Women won the Ashes five times, in addition to both achieving World Cup successes.

Dan Feist, Essex Cricket's Chief Executive Officer, said: "Everyone at Essex Cricket is saddened to hear the news of David passing, he gave his life to supporting sport and all levels of cricket.

"We specifically thank David for his support of cricket in Essex as Assistant Secretary but also with his local connection to Colchester Cricket Club.

"A large number of people involved in sport administration owe a lot of thanks for the guidance, mentoring, and opportunity that David provided."
