Essex Women play Surrey Women in Round 14 of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
The team are ready to go as they face their final three matches of the season.
In Round 13, the team faced Warwickshire Women. After losing the wicket of Grace Scrivens early in the innings, Gillgrass (17) and Macleod (34) created a strong start for the side. The mid-order pairing of Smale and Heap quickly found some pace and the duo created a partnership of 75 runs. This included Liberty's most recent half-century. The team ended their attack on 202-all out after 44.5 overs.
After the innings break, Esmae MacGregor (2-39) struck first by trapping Surenkumar for LBW. MacGregor then went onto take her second wicket of the day as Meg Austin was caught behind by Ella Claridge. Warwickshire built up momentum before losing their third wicket as Amelie Bishop caught Halliday off Maqsood's (1-34) bowling. Katie George and Abbey Freeborn found their rhythm and the pair reached the target set by Essex.
Stephen Parry has named a 13-player squad for the team's penultimate home game of the 2026 season.
After sustaining injuries against Somerset in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, unfortunately Amara Carr and Flo Miller will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Ariana Dowse will also miss out in accordance with concussion guidelines.

Winter moves: Big-hitting seamer Emma Jones has permanently headed north to The Blaze while another quick, Alexa Stonehouse, has gone on a season-long loan to Warwickshire. Two additions to the squad are Rachel King and Emily Burke. Wicketkeeper-batter King signed a rookie contract in October after spending much of last year in Tier Two with Sussex, while Burke is promoted from the academy.
The big question: Surrey were all-but unstoppable in the Vitality Blast last season but must uncover the secret of how to transfer that dominance to the longer white-ball format. There were several instances in 2025 of the bowling attack coming up short defending scores of around 300, most notably in the semi-final against Hampshire where their total of 287 was overhauled with almost three overs to spare.
Player to watch: Tilly Corteen-Coleman. Given the teenager was sold at the recent Hundred auction for £105,000, it seems spurious to flag her as one to watch. However, much of her success so far has come in T20 whereas in the 2025 One Day Cup she took only two wickets. Only 18, the slow left-armer is still learning her craft and if she makes a leap forward in this format, Surrey may do too.
Final thoughts:
Alice Capsey, Sophia Dunkley, Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Danni Wyatt-Hodge are centrally contracted to England, and Stonehouse has been loaned out, so there are question marks over availability in a World Cup year. Much may rest on the shoulders of last season’s leading run-scorer Alice Davidson-Richards and spinners Corteen-Coleman and Dani Gregory if Chathli is to enjoy success in her first season as skipper.
