Essex Cricket can confirm the signing of Jack Auld on a rookie contract.

The right-arm fast bowler has been signed on a short-term deal to provide cover with Sam Cook included in the squad for the third Rothesay Test Match between England and Pakistan and Charlie Bennett and MacKenzie Jones unavailable through injury.

2026 has been a transformative year for 17-year-old Auld. After impressing for Essex Second XI, Auld was named in a Young Lions Invitational XI before featuring for England Under-19s in a Youth Test again Pakistan Under-19s. He was also one of three Essex Academy players to fulfill 12th-man duties for England's Test Match against New Zealand at Lord's in June.

On signing the contract, Auld said: "To sign my first rookie contract is an incredibly exciting moment.

"I've had good opportunities for progression this year through the Young Lions and England Under-19s and to have the chance to spend time around the senior team will give me even more valuable experience.

"If I'm called upon, I can't wait to contribute to strong team performances at an important stage of the season."
