Essex Cricket are happy to announce that Essex Women’s batter Cordelia Griffith has signed a new contract with the Club.
The 31-year-old has signed a two-year extension that will keep her at Essex until the end of the 2028 season.
Born in Islington, London, Griffith developed her skills as a right-handed batter on the Essex Pathway before making her debut for the Club in 2010 against Somerset Women.
On signing her new contract, Griffith, said: "I am beyond delighted to extend my contract with Essex.
“I have really enjoyed being part of this team and seeing the growth we have made as a Club over the last two years. There is real ambition within the group, and I have no doubt that we can achieve something special over the next couple of years.
“I am looking forward to continuing my journey here, contributing to the team’s ambitions and success and creating many more memories here at Chelmsford for not just us but our supporters too.”
Since making her debut for the Club, Griffith has represented Essex Women on more than 100 occasions across various competitions, scoring over 2,100 runs, including 12 half-centuries and three centuries. Her highest score in an Essex shirt came against Suffolk Women in 2018, when she struck an unbeaten 155 from 120 balls in a 50-over fixture.
Unfortunately, Griffith suffered a serious knee injury while fielding during the 2026 season, which saw her stretchered off the field mid-match. The injury ruled her out for the remainder of the campaign, and she will continue her rehabilitation and physiotherapy throughout the winter.
Before her injury, the batter had made a strong start to the season. Across eight List A appearances, Griffith scored 230 runs, including three half-centuries and a highest score of 69. She also made four appearances in the T20 Blast (batting three times), scoring over 100 runs at an average of 36, with a highest score of 68.
Essex Women’s Head Coach, Stephen Parry, added: “We are really pleased that Cordelia has committed her future to Essex for another two years.
“She has been a really important part of the Club for a long time and brings plenty of experience to the group.
“Cords made a strong start to the 2026 season before suffering an unfortunate injury, and we’ll be supporting her throughout her rehabilitation over the winter. We know what she is capable of, and I look forward to seeing her back out on the pitch and contributing to the team again in 2027.”
