Born in Harare, Mashonaland, Zimbabwe, Shane Snater made his Essex debut in 2018 in the One-Day Cup against Hampshire. Initially a predominant white-ball player, he has since developed his skills across all formats and now holds the versatility to bowl effectively in red and white-ball cricket.
A year on from his debut, Snater featured five times in Essex’s 2019 Blast campaign, contributing to the Club’s success in what became a memorable double-winning season.
The right-arm seamer broke into the County Championship side in 2021 and made an immediate impact, taking 31 wickets at an impressive average of 16.48 in his debut first-class season in England.
In September 2022, Snater was awarded his Essex County Cap (No. 165) and capped off a standout year by being named both Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year whilst also collecting the award for the Performance of the Year.
With international pedigree, Snater has represented the Netherlands across formats, recording both a five-wicket haul and a half-century at international level. In 43 appearances, he has taken 47 wickets and scored 210 runs, including best figures of 5-88 and a top score of 50 not out.
As of the end of the 2025 season, Snater has claimed 143 first-class wickets at an average of 25.94, along with 41 T20 and 46 List A wickets for Essex.
