Born in Colchester, Essex, Simon Maurice Louis Fernandes is one of a handful of Colchester representatives that play at the Club. Originally signed on a short-term deal for the 2024 One Day Cup after impressing in the Second XI, Fernandes signed a full-time rookie deal at the start of the 2025 season.
In the 2025 One Day Cup campaign, the right-handed batter scored 138 runs in seven innings at an average of 34.50, including a top score of 46* batting at number eight. Stepping up as Essex Men’s wicketkeeper, Fernandes claimed ten catches and three stumpings also.
Although he hasn’t made his first-class debut for Essex, Fernandes has featured in several County Championship fixtures as a substitute keeper when injuries have occurred.
After strong displays in Essex colours, Simon was selected for the MCC's tour of Zimbabwe in October 2025, where he made his first-class debut and scored 71 off 126 balls.
Upon the conclusion of the 2025 season, Fernandes was awarded with a two-year professional contract at the Club.
