Chris Silverwood will take a squad to Canterbury today for a two-day pre-season friendly against Kent.
Pre-season preparation continues with Essex Men facing division two outfit Kent, at The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence on Thursday 27 & Friday 28 March.
The match is free to enter, visitors will not require tickets for entry and free parking is available – on a first come first serve basis. Kent are strongly advising to use public transport if you can.
Kent will be live streaming the match and it will be available to watch via the Matchzone and Essex Cricket social media channels.
The timings will be similar to a Rothesay County Championship fixture:

In a pre-arranged agreement between both clubs, The Eagles will bowl all day on Day One and bat all day on Day Two.
Batters will have the opportunity to bat twice, and both teams will bat for the entirety of their allotted day, regardless of how many wickets have been lost.
Essex Men's Rothesay County Championship campaign is almost one week away, as Surrey visit Chelmsford for the first round of fixtures.

Essex Cricket are delighted to announce the signing of Australian all-rounder, Maddie Penna, on an overseas deal for the Women's Vitality Blast campaign.
Penna, 24, currently applies her craft for South Australia in the Women’s National Cricket League as well as staring for the Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League.
Penna debuted in 2019 and has since made 43 Women’s List A appearances and 74 in Women’s T20. With a top List A score of 118* and 113 in T20, Penna has proved she can score well as a powerful right-handed middle-order batter. With the Adelaide Strikers in 2020/21, Penna became the first number seven in WBBL history to score a half-century, which included a destructive 24-run over.
Maddie not only contributes with the bat but also as a right-arm leg-spinner, having taken her best T20 bowling figures of 4/20 in just her second match in the WBBL.
“I’m really looking forward to playing for Essex this summer, and to be part of such an exciting season for the county,” said Penna.
“It’s a brilliant opportunity for me to test myself in a new environment having played T20 cricket both at home and in New Zealand over the last few months.
“I know some of the squad from their time in Adelaide over the winter and I can't wait to head over to meet up with the team and hopefully contribute to a successful season.”
Andy Tennant, Team Director of Essex Women, added: “We are delighted to have Maddie on board for the Blast.
“She is an exciting and dynamic young player with an excellent record in the women’s Big Bash, which has seen her earn international recognition.
“I am confident she will fit in well with our talented playing group and help us win games and challenge for T20 honours this year.”
Welcome to Chelmsford, Maddie!

Adam Rossington has signed a new, T20 contract that replaces his existing deal and runs until the end of the 2025 season.
Rossington, 31, joined Essex on loan ahead of the 2022 campaign, making the move permanent midway through that year, and was recognised with a county cap towards the end of the 2023 season.
He has so far scored 760 T20 runs at a strike rate of over 150 for the Eagles, including two half-centuries and a top score of 95, made off just 50 balls against Sussex in his first season with the Club.
In addition, Rossington has kept wicket in all but one of his 37 shortest-format appearances for Essex, claiming 17 catches and five stumpings in that time.
“This was a really difficult decision to take the T20 route,” said Rossington. “I love playing for Essex, and I want to play as many matches as I can, in as many formats as I can.
“Unfortunately, though, the reality is that I have to consider what’s best for the longevity of my career, and having spent time out injured last year, I believe this is the right call.
“I’d like to thank all of the passionate Essex fans for their support so far, and I’m still really looking forward to being able to represent the Eagles in the Blast this summer.”
Director of Cricket Chris Silverwood added: "We completely respect and understand Adam's decision, with the demands of the modern game now bigger than ever before.
"Players have to make choices, however difficult they are, that they feel are right for themselves to prolong their time at the highest level.
"Adam has handled this situation with the utmost professionalism, and we are still excited to have him as a valuable member of our T20 squad in 2025."
