Essex Women: Grace Scrivens, Lissy Macleod, Cordelia Griffith, Jodi Grewcock, Maddie Penna, Jo Gardner, Eva Gray, Sophia Smale, Amara Carr (wk), Kate Coppack, Abtaha Maqsood.
Somerset Women: Bex Odgers, Niamh Holland, Sophie Luff (C), Fran Wilson, Jess Hazell (WK), Alex Griffiths, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Chloe Skelton, Ellie Anderson, Mollie Robbins, Olvia Barnes
Umpires: James Middlebrook & Julia Jarvis
Toss: Essex Women won the toss and elected to bowl first
Result:
Somerset’s bid for victory against Essex was thwarted by the rain at Chelmsford.
Niamh Holland led the visitors’ run-fest with 76, including eight fours in 76 balls after they were put in while Jess Hazell hit 60 in 56 balls as they raised 312-6 off the 49.2 overs possible.
The total was the 6th highest in the competition this season, the top five scores having been made at Beckenham.
It was a sobering day for Essex’s bowlers, who, with the exception of Sophia Smale (2-56), strayed in both line and length. However, the rain which drove the players off four balls before the end of the Somerset innings refused to abate, meaning the hosts had no opportunity to take on the huge chase.
Holland, making a belated debut in the competition because of a back injury sustained playing in Australia over the winter, would prove the mainstay of the visitors’ effort, one four crunched back over the bowler’s head and a sweep among six boundaries as she moved to 50 in 54 balls.
The 20-year-old right-hander celebrated with a powerful cut backward of square and there was another boundary over mid-wicket before her first mistake proved costly, skewing one from Kate Coppack to Jodie Grewcock behind point.
Holland’s solidity allowed others to play around her. Odgers produced two delightful pick-up shots over mid-wicket, before being dropped in that region by Lissy Macleod on 29, but it wasn’t a costly miss, the opener skying one soon after to Amara Carr behind the stumps.
Somerset’s leading scorer Sophie Luff dispatched a head-high full toss from Maddie Penna to the fence at long leg before creaming the resulting free-hit through the covers in a breezy 27 ended by Smale, stumped by Carr.
Fran Wilson belted a full toss from Jo Gardner back over the bowler’s head in her cameo performance, though Gardner had the last laugh when Wilson bunted back a caught and bowled.
Hazell and Alex Griffiths (29) ran hard to keep the scoreboard moving in their 5th wicket stand of 57, Hazell reaching 50 from 52 balls with only three fours and Amanda-Jade Wellington and Chloe Skelton cashed in late on before the rain came.

Essex Cricket are delighted to announce that England Women will return to the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground in 2026.
The ECB have today confirmed that England Women will return to Chelmsford on Thursday 28 May 2026 when Nat Sciver-Brunt's side face India Women in a Vitality IT20.
The match, which is the first of a three-match series, will take place in Chelmsford before the sides head to the West Country and will form key preparation for both teams ahead of the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 which will be held in England.

Dan Feist, CEO of Essex Cricket said: "We are thrilled that the England Women's team will return to Chelmsford again in 2026.
“This prestige fixture offers a superb opportunity to engage with the Indian communities in the region against the backdrop of elite-level cricket at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground.
"International matches in Chelmsford are always incredibly well supported and we are confident that the Essex public will come out to cheer on both teams during our 150th Anniversary Year.”
Tickets for the series are due to go on sale later in the summer, with a public ballot scheduled to open in August.
Supporters can sign-up to the 'notify me' service today to receive further information when it is released, including information on the forthcoming ticket ballot, pricing and priority purchase windows.
It's been over two months since the last 50-over fixture was played, casting back to Essex v Surrey at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground on May 19.
Since then, all focus has been on the shortest format of the game, playing a plethora of T20 fixtures over the last eight weeks, but now all attention must turn to the one day format as Essex Women welcome Somerset Women to the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground.
Last time out, Essex faced Surrey at Chelmsford and the visitors found themselves in trouble at 117 for six, but Moore (66 from 70) and MacDonald-Gay (57 from 77) formed a crucial 113-run partnership, helping their side reach 259 for nine.
Essex seamer Eva Gray claimed 5-52, which was her second five-wicket haul of the tournament, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the visitors from setting a challenging total.
Jo Gardner’s spirited unbeaten 73 from 46 balls, which included a series of sixes, gave Essex hope. However, MacDonald-Gay’s late double strike sealed the win for Surrey, leaving Gardner stranded as Surrey claimed the final two wickets in consecutive deliveries.

Head Coach Andy Tennant has named a 14-player squad for clash against Somerset and the return of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
Seam bowler Esmae MacGregor is still being precautionarily rested and monitored.
Sophie Munro and Flo Miller are continuing to participate in light training on their road to recovery from their long term injuries.

Heather Knight led Somerset to a dominant five-wicket win over Essex in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup with a standout all-round display, taking 3-7 and scoring a key 45 runs.
Somerset's bowlers, especially Laura Jackson (2-12) and Ellie Anderson (2-44), dismissed Essex’s top order, reducing them to 2-3 and later 50-5. Amara Carr resisted with a valiant 67, but Knight's off-spin cleaned up the tail, dismissing Essex for 184.
In reply, Knight, Sophie Luff, and Fran Wilson built steady partnerships before Charlie Dean’s brisk unbeaten 45 from 49 balls ensured Somerset chased down the target with 14.1 overs to spare. Despite early pressure from Essex, Somerset remained composed and secured their second win in three matches.

Somerset squad: Emma Corney, Sophie Luff (c), Fran Wilson, Rebecca Odgers, Charlie Dean, Dani Gibson, Alex Griffiths, Niamh Holland, Amelie Munday, Erin Vukusic, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Olivia Barnes, Katie Jones (wk), Jess Hazell, Laura Jackson, Lola Harris, Chloe Skelton, Mollie Robbins, Ellie Anderson.
Coach: Trevor Griffin
Captain: Sophie Luff
The big questions: It remains to be seen how Somerset cope without the outgoing Sophia Smale, Lauren Filer and Nat Wraith, while the availability of England players Heather Knight, Charlie Dean and Dani Gibson could prove the difference between success and failure. Can new signings Laura Jackson and Ellie Anderson successfully plug the gaps?
Player to watch: Amanda-Jade Wellington. The Australian leg spinner is back and determined to improve upon last year's standout debut season in England. Capable of turning it both ways, she is difficult to score against and has a habit of taking crucial wickets. An adept finisher, she can also be a matchwinner with the bat.
Young gun: Katie Jones. Long considered a precocious talent, the teenage wicketkeeper-batter is ready to realise her potential and establish herself as a regular in the senior side. Capable of scoring valuable mid-order runs, she helped England reach the ICC Under-19 T20 World Cup semi-finals in Malaysia last winter.
Final thought: Littered with international quality, a full-strength Somerset line-up would prove a match for all comers. That said, England call-ups will sap that strength and attaining the consistency of performance required to challenge will be dependent upon less experienced squad members stepping up to the plate. Youthful talent undoubtedly excites, but a lack of depth may hinder West Country prospects.
If you are unable to attend any of the match days, the game will be available to watch via the Essex Cricket Matchzone, through the YouTube livestream.
Daily highlights will be available after each day’s play via the Club website and social media. Live updates will also be provided through the Club’s various social platforms and channels.

Ronnie Jackson's superb century was the highlight for Essex Hawks during their D40 Quest South encounter with Middlesex at the William Perkins School.
Jackson, who recently featured for England during their series win over India, hit 123 off 93 balls during his 119-minute stint at the crease. His innings included fifteen 4s and three 6s. However, his efforts proved insufficient in guiding Essex to their first victory of the season.
Matthew Jones returned bowling figures of 8-1-28-4, and Craig Fowler 8-0-48-3 as Middlesex dismissed the visitors to 187.
Middlesex chased down their target inside 27 overs and for the loss of one wicket. Jackson broke through with the ball on what proved to be a tough day for Essex.
Umesh Valjee followed Jackson's earlier heroics with a century of his own for the hosts. His 108 from 94 balls carried Middlesex home with some to spare and concluded a frustrating season for the Hawks.

Upon the conclusion of the Vitality Blast, the focus for the Essex Men now returns to the Rothesay County Championship, with a trip to Sussex on the horizon.
Essex Men travel to Brighton & Hove for round ten of the County Championship to face a Sussex side who have their eyes set on a top three finish in their return to Division One.
It's been a fair while since the last first-class match between the two sides, previously facing each other back in 2020 in the Bob Willis trophy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
All focus now returns to the longer format of the game following the conclusion of the T20 Blast last Friday.

Essex's last County Championship match was up in York against Yorkshire, where the hosts came from behind to claim a 10 wicket victory after Tea on day four.
The Eagles' third defeat of the campaign came after being bowled out for 131 in the second innings, which had started with a deficit of 91. Frustrations occurred after letting things slip on day three when Yorkshire were 273 for eight in reply to a first-innings 368.
Chris Silverwood has named a 13-player squad for the trip up to Brighton to face Sussex.
Overseas signing Khaleel Ahmed is included in a very strong seam attack which includes the return of Sam Cook, Jamie Porter and Shane Snater.

Sussex find themselves in the top three of Division One currently sitting with 123 points, 16 points off Nottinghamshire in second place and 17 adrift from Surry in pole position.
In their last Rothesay County Championship fixture, Sussex shared the honours with Warwickshire as the match at Hove ended in a draw.
Ollie Robinson, Gurinder Sandhu and Henry Crocombe each took three wickets in the first innings, with James Coles taking two in the second innings alongside Jack Carson and Robinson collecting one each.
Only batting once, Sussex produced 533 runs with opener Daniel Hughes scoring 151 and James Coles with 150.
Wicket-keeper batter John Simpson is their leading run-scorer so far in the 2025 campaign, amassing 830 runs at an average of 75.45 with a high score of 181*.
Ollie Robinson is their top wicket-taker with 24 wickets at an average of 29.87 in seven matches.

Sussex squad: John Simpson (c & wk), Tom Alsop, Jack Carson, Oli Carter, James Coles, Henry Crocombe, Tom Haines, Fynn Hudson-Prentice, Daniel Hughes, Daniel Ibrahim, Ari Karvelas, Danny Lamb, Gurinder Sandhu.
Despite having faced each other numerous times in the Vitality Blast, Essex and Sussex haven’t met in the first-class format for five years.
The last encounter came during the COVID-19-affected 2020 season, in a Bob Willis Trophy ‘South Group’ match held in August at the 1st Central County Ground.
Essex emerged victorious by three wickets, thanks in part to Simon Harmer’s 20th five-wicket haul, as Sussex were bowled out for just 141 in their second innings, setting Essex a target of 196.
Having won the toss and chosen to bowl first, Essex dismissed Sussex for 194 in 77 overs. Jamie Porter led the attack with a five-wicket haul, supported by Aaron Beard (2 wickets) and Harmer (3 wickets).
In reply, Essex were bowled out for just 140 in 55 overs, with Paul Walter top-scoring with 33 and Sir Alastair Cook contributing 20.
Despite the deficit, Essex bounced back by bowling Sussex out for 141 in 56 overs in their second innings. This time, Harmer starred with a five-wicket haul, while Porter claimed three, and Beard and Matt Quinn chipped in with one each.
Chasing 196, Essex reached the target in 52 overs, with Dan Lawrence top-scoring with 60. Paul Walter and Aaron Beard guided the Eagles home with 6.1 overs to spare.

If you are unable to attend any of the match days, the game will be available to watch via the Essex Cricket Matchzone, through the YouTube livestream.
Daily highlights will be available after each day’s play via the Club website and social media. Live updates will also be provided through the Club’s various social platforms and channels.
Tickets for all four days at the 1st Central County Ground can be purchased online here or by calling 01273 827 100.

Essex: Michael Pepper, Paul Walter, Jordan Cox (wk), Charlie Allison, Matt Critchley, Luc Benkenstein, Noah Thain, Simon Harmer, Shane Snater, Mohammad Amir, Mackenzie Jones.
Umpires: Rob Bailey & Martin Saggers
Match Referee: Simon Hinks
Scorers: Andy Bateup & Paul Parkinson
Toss: Kent Spitfires win the toss and elect to bowl first
Result: Kent Spitfires win by 7 wickets
The Kent Spitfires are through to the Vitality Blast quarter-finals after a thrilling final evening at Canterbury.
The Spitfires eased to a seven-wicket win over Essex and thousands of fans stayed in the ground to watch Surrey’s nerve-shredding win over Sussex on the big screen, a result that confirmed Kent’s place in the top four.
Kent held Essex to 172 for six after they’d raced to 65 for nought after the powerplay. Paul Walter top-scored with 52 while Charlie Allison hit 48.
A 114-run partnership between, Tawanda Muyeye, who made 80 from 49 balls and Harry Finch, who hit 64 from 35, effectively won Kent the game before Sam Billings hit the winning runs with 16 balls to spare.
A crowd of 5,289 watched Kent initially struggle to contain Essex after putting them in, before Matt Parkinson got a desperately needed breakthrough when Michael Pepper reverse swept him to Klaassen for 28.
Jordan Cox couldn’t repeat his epic innings from Thursday night, bowled by Joey Evison for six and Parkinson bowled tightly to drag back the scoring rate.
Walter hit Denly straight to Harry Finch at square leg and it was 129 for 3 after 17. Gilchrist’s 18th went for 19 but got both Matt Critchley, who scooped him straight to Grant Stewart for 12, and Luc Benkenstein, who sliced him to Parkinson for six.
Allison hit Stewart to Leaning on the long on boundary in the final over, leaving the contest evenly poised at halfway.
Kent were 46 without loss after five overs when Walter came on at the Nackington Road end and took a wicket with his first ball, Daniel Bell-Drummond chipping him to Pepper. They eased to 82 for one at halfway, and Simon Harmer then came in for some punishment, Finch hitting him for successive sixes in an over that went for 19.
Kent were aided by some problematic fielding, including a pivotal moment in the 12th when Finch hit Walter to backward square leg and Noah Thain could only parry him over the rope for six.
Snater then bundled a routine stop over the rope for four and with Kent needing just 17 off the last five overs the chase was devoid of tension, although Muyeye holed out to Critchley and was caught by Benkenstein at the end of the 16th and Mohammad Amir then bowled Finch.
Denly and Sam Billings waited out Amir before the latter creamed Snater for six and hit his next delivery for two to see Kent home.
All eyes switched to the big-screen, which was showing the Surrey v Sussex game, with players and fans alike going through every possible emotion before they erupted when Chris Jordan took a wicket with the penultimate ball and it was finally confirmed they’d reached the last eight, for the first time since 2021.

Essex Women: Grace Scrivens, Maddie Penna, Jodi Grewcock, Cordelia Griffith, Jo Gardner, Lissy Macleod, Eva Gray, Sophia Smale, Amara Carr (wk), Kate Coppack, Abtaha Maqsood.
Durham Women: Suzie Bates, Emma Marlow, Mady Villiers, Hollie Armitage, Bess Heat, Emily Windsor, Mia Rogers, Katherine Fraser, Phoebe Turner, Sophia Turner, Katie Levick.
Umpires: Neil Bainton & Gabi Brown
Scorers: Helen Hyde & Ian Rippington
Toss: Essex Women won the toss and elected to bat first
Result:
Cordelia Griffith’s bustling knock of 60 from 35 balls laid the foundations for Essex to end their Vitality Blast campaign on a high by seeing off Durham at Chelmsford.
The right-hander shared a second-wicket partnership of 66 from 44 with skipper Grace Scrivens (48 from 39) as the home side posted 164 for three.
Durham looked well-placed to chase that down after an opening stand of 78 from 57 between Suzie Bates, who top-scored with 45 from 39 and Emma Marlow – but the momentum shifted after the pair both departed in quick succession.
Spinners Abtaha Maqsood and Sophia Smale, who both returned two for 26, squeezed the visitors further and their five-match unbeaten sequence came to an end as they fell nine runs short.
With Lauren Winfield-Hill returning to Yorkshire at the end of her loan spell, Maddie Penna moved up to open with Scrivens and their partnership of 63 from 52 provided Essex with a strong start after winning the toss.
Having pummelled Katherine Fraser to the fence twice in her knock of 25 from 29, the hard-hitting Australian was then given out leg before, but Griffith took up the baton with relish as she lifted Sophia Turner over long on for six.
Griffith’s positive running between the wickets, allied with aggressive strokeplay, propelled her beyond her partner as she raced to a 26-ball half-century but Scrivens narrowly missed out on that landmark, caught reverse paddling Sophia Turner.
Durham finished strongly, with leg-spinner Katie Levick (one for 24) removing Griffith and she and Sophia Turner gave away just 13 from the last two overs – six of those from the final ball of the innings, dispatched out of the ground by Jo Gardner.
Like the home side, Durham progressed through their batting powerplay without shedding any wickets and Bates’ powerful striking kept the scoreboard ticking along as she thumped Kate Coppack for successive boundaries.
Marlow (25 from 23) filled a capable supporting role until her miscued drive off Smale sailed into the hands of extra cover – and Durham lost their other set batter in the next over when Bates holed out off Maqsood.
The leg-spinner also accounted for Hollie Armitage, bowled attempting a reverse sweep, but former Essex player Mady Villiers (28 from 22) and Bess Heath (24 from 18) kept the visitors in contention, adding a quickfire 40.
However, the task of scoring 17 from the final over proved beyond Durham, who lost two wickets in three balls to stumpings by Amara Carr as Penna (two for 26) closed the game out.

Jordan Cox produced the highest individual score of this year’s Men’s Vitality Blast to keep Hampshire Hawks sweating over a quarter-final spot.
The explosive batter hammered a stunning 139 off just 60 balls — the second-highest T20 score in Essex history — as the already-eliminated Eagles signed off with three wins from their last four matches.
Hampshire had set a daunting target of 221, powered by 84 from Toby Albert, alongside a rapid 41 off 24 from Tom Prest and a blistering 56 off 23 from Hilton Cartwright.
But Cox’s fireworks sealed the victory in the final over with two towering sixes. Hampshire now sit in the top four, having completed their fixtures, but must hope that neither Sussex Sharks nor Kent Spitfires record big wins that would knock them out of contention.
The Hawks were without captain James Vince due to illness, with Chris Wood stepping in as skipper for only the second time in the Blast. Fellow opener Chris Lynn remained sidelined with a hamstring injury, which saw Prest promoted to open with Albert.
Despite averaging just 6.5 in the competition before this game, Prest sparked Hampshire’s charge in the powerplay, which yielded 53 runs — though only 11 came from the exceptional Mohammad Amir.
Prest raced to 41 from 24 balls before falling lbw to Luc Benkenstein, and Joe Weatherley quickly followed, caught at deep square. From there, Albert and Cartwright took control, hammering the Essex attack to all parts with 134 runs coming in the final 10 overs.
Albert anchored while Cartwright played the aggressor — their contrasting approaches reflected in the timing of their fifties: 40 balls for Albert, 21 for Cartwright. Cartwright especially enjoyed the short Chelmsford boundaries, launching four of his five sixes straight down the ground.
Their 94-run stand marked the second time in three games they had led the scoring. Cartwright eventually holed out, and Benny Howell followed soon after.
Albert then took on Amir with five consecutive boundaries in one over before falling trying to end it with a flourish. James Fuller smashed two sixes and a four before being caught in the final over by Mackenzie Jones.
At 221, the total looked commanding, but Essex came out swinging.
Paul Walter and Michael Pepper plundered 19 off Sonny Baker’s second over, though both fell in quick succession. That brought Cox to the crease — and he never looked back.
Cox smashed 19 off Fuller and followed with assaults of 19 and 27 off Howell, whose two overs ultimately cost 46 runs.
Wickets continued to fall around him — Charlie Allison, Matt Critchley, Benkenstein and Noah Thain all came and went — but Cox powered his way to a maiden T20 century in just 47 balls.
With 26 needed from the final two overs, Simon Harmer was dropped over the boundary before Cox hammered a monstrous six over midwicket.
Eleven were needed from the last over, and Cox finished the job with two sweet strikes down the ground — overtaking Dan Lawrence’s 120 earlier in the competition and placing only behind Graham Napier’s 152 in Essex T20 history.
