Charles William James Allison, born in Colchester, first honed his skills in club cricket at Colchester & East Essex Cricket Club. Progressing through the Essex pathway and Academy, he made his first-team debut away against Lancashire in the 2023 One Day Cup. During that campaign, he scored 254 runs, with performances that began to draw wider attention to his talent.
In 2023, Allison was awarded with the Second XI Player of the Year and since making his first team debut, Charlie has featured more than 50 times for Essex across all formats, batting as a right-handed opener or in the top-middle order.
Learning his trade as an all-format player, Allison has been able to switch between both the red and white-ball formats. In his first twelve first-class matches, he scored 703 runs at an average of 37, including a superb 140 at the Oval against Surrey during the 2025 season.
For limited-overs cricket, Allison boasts a top score of 69* in the Blast and 131 in the One Day Cup as he continues to be a key figure of the side despite his age.
At the 2025 Essex Cricket Awards, Allison scooped up the Men’s Young Player of the Year, Men’s Players’ Player of the Year and the Player of the Year.
