The sole new recruit without a Sunrisers background, Welsh left-arm spinner Smale represented Western Storm for three seasons from 2022, taking 44 wickets across List A and T20 cricket.

The younger sister of Glamorgan wicketkeeper-batter Will Smale, she was born in Newport and represented Wales’ youth teams before playing for the senior side on the county domestic circuit.

Still only 19 years old, Smale has already received national attention since signing for the Storm, appearing in The Hundred for Oval Invincibles and being selected for multiple England Under-19 tours.
