Day Three in Taunton marked a memorable day in the season, with Essex clinching an opening victory in Division One of the Specsavers County Championship.
With Essex requiring a seemingly uphill challenge at the start of the day’s play, it was Alastair Cook and Tom Westley who went to work on reaching the 255 runs needed for victory. With Nick Browne departing for 35, Cook and Westley recorded the highest partnership of the match which saw the batsman score a century and half century, respectively.
Cook was later out for 110 and Westley, joined by Dan Lawrence (11) hit a boundary to reach 86* and clinch the win for Essex. Tom spoke to Essex Cricket TV to talk about a fine day’s work for the batsmen.
Essex now head to Lord’s on Friday where Ryan ten Doeschate’s men will come up against reigning Champions, Middlesex in the Specsavers County Championship.
