The Champions Head to Chelmsford City Centre

Chelmsford cricket fans had a cracking day of fun, as the some of the playing squad headed to the High Chelmer Shopping Centre, along with the County Championship trophy on Saturday.

Still riding high on the back of their historic win, visitors to the centre were able to meet Jamie Porter, Sam Cook, Matt Dixon, Aaron Beard and Matt Quinn from the undefeated team as well as getting autographs and pictures. The players also brought an added touch of sparkle and shine with them as the Specsavers County Championship trophy was in the centre, giving fans the chance to see it up-close and take pictures with one of the most coveted prizes in cricket.

High Chelmer Centre Manager, Mick McDonagh, said he was delighted to welcome Essex County Cricket Club to the shopping centre for the day. “We had a brilliant day with the players,” said Mick. “The team did Essex proud by winning the County Championship and they did it in real style by going the whole season undefeated.

“Visitors to the centre really enjoyed being able to meet their idols and it was great that the guys brought the trophy with them so fans could see the reward for the players’ hard work.

“As a key part of the Chelmsford community, I’m pleased that we’ve been able to work with another key member of the community in Essex County Cricket Club on such a great day for the people of Chelmsford.”

Essex County Cricket Club bowler and leading wicket-taker in 2017, Jamie Porter said: “We are really pleased to have brought the trophy to the High Chelmer Shopping Centre and share our success with the people of Chelmsford. We’ve been lucky to share our triumph with supporters but it’s great to come and represent the Club in the community and meet the public.

“Many of the people who came down today watched us during the season, so it was great to meet them and hear their favourite moments.”
