Change To Warwickshire Away Fixture Confirmed

Essex’s Specsavers County Championship First Division fixture against Warwickshire, starting on Saturday 13 July, will take place at Worcestershire’s Blackfinch New Road.

With the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup taking place in England and Wales during June and July, Warwickshire will have to play at least one home County Championship fixture away from Edgbaston.

Warwickshire explored the possibility of using an out ground, but due to the scheduling of the ICC World Cup fixtures, the Edgbaston staff would not be available to assist in the running of a first-class match at an out ground in Warwickshire.

Warwickshire also considered moving the fixture to Edgbaston Community Sports Ground, but that ground isn’t capable of hosting first-class cricket at the current time. Therefore, Warwickshire made the decision to move the game to a nearby first-class venue, with Blackfinch New Road being the most suitable.

Neil Snowball, CEO of Warwickshire, commented: “We know that Blackfinch New Road is always a very popular venue for cricket fans and after plenty of discussion and consideration, we believe this is our best option for this important fixture.”
