scorecard

Feroze Khushi hit a superb century as the Essex second string recorded a comfortable 84-run victory over Suffolk in a 50-over friendly fixture staged at The Cloudfm County Ground.

Khushi’s 154 minutes in the middle yielded a stylish 117 off 108 balls, including 11 boundaries, which included two 6s.

Nick Browne gleaned valuable match practice ahead of the return of red-ball cricket later this week. His 73 arriving from 83 deliveries, while Nikhil Gorantla (42) and Aaron Beard (41) were also amongst the runs as Essex posted a huge 333/7 – Matt Allen taking 3/54 for the visitors’.

The home side appeared to be running away with the contest, with Ben Allison and Eshun Kalley amongst the wickets as Suffolk floundered on 87-5. However, a sixth-wicket partnership of 111 between Tom Rash and Allen threatened to frustrate Essex, before a great ball from Joe MacGregor nipped back to clip Allen’s leg stump with the batsman on 63.

Rash would reach 64, but chasing down the target was always going to be a tall order. Kalley finished with 3/38 from his 10 overs, while Allison’s 2/23 off eight contributed to Essex’s success.
