Essex Seniors Mid-Season Report

Competing in the Overs 60 & Over 70 section of national competitions, Essex Cricket have 6 teams with four being for people above the age of 60 and two for people aged above 70.

As the half way points in the season rolls around, all teams have either completed six or seven games. The over 60s 1st XI is currently the high-flyers in their group having won all 7 of their games so far this season. While the other three 60+ teams all sit mid-table.

Top runscorer Kevin Grant has been the highlight of the season so far for the 1st XI as he has currently amassed 455 runs in his 7 innings, with high score of 161 therefore averaging 75.

However, in the Over 70s, both teams are continuing to endeavour with the 1st XI sitting mid-table, after 3 wins, and the 2nd XI having a difficult run with just one win.

Both teams will be looking forward to trying to move up the table after having multiple injuries in recent weeks, with there being hope that the returning players can give the two teams a boost as they push on into the second half of the season.

Although one player who has been in fine form is 78-year-old John Stuck. Averaging 115, John has scored three consecutive centuries with his last being a high-score of 142 not out.

Finally, Essex Cricket would like to give a big thank you to the 16 clubs who are currently hosting home games to allow senior games to be played.
