In June, DeVines Accountants had the pleasure of presenting April and May’s Player of the Month awards to Alastair Cook and Paul Walter. April saw the Essex team compete in the opening four rounds of the LV= Insurance County Championship, including a remarkable victory at Somerset, two draws at home and a loss away at Warwickshire.
Cook won the public’s vote in April after scoring a century in the opening game of the season and picking up crucial runs in a low-scoring encounter with Somerset. Cook was in excellent form as Essex’s leading run-scorer, collecting an astounding 272 runs in April alone. He took an immediate lead, receiving a total of 42% of the vote.

In May, after achieving multiple scores in the 90s, Walter stole the limelight by scoring his maiden century (141) for Essex against Yorkshire. But, he didn’t stop there. Walter carried this passion with him into the T20 competition, playing a vital role in securing the Eagles first win against Kent Spitfires. So, it came as no surprise when Walter scooped up the Player of the Month title with 59% of the vote in his favour.

With a nail-biting T20 campaign so far, we’re excited to see who takes centre stage as DeVines Player of the Month in June.
