Eagles Overseas: Down Under this winter

As the men’s First Team squad gear up for the pre-season camp to Abu Dhabi later this month, many of the players have been gearing up for the new season Down Under.

Jamie Porter, Ben Allison and Aaron Beard have been hard at work in Victoria under the supervision of Essex Bowling Coach Mick Lewis who returned to his native Australia after the conclusion of the 2022 season.

Paul Walter joined the group after his stint in the ILT20 with Sharjah Warriors, whilst Josh Rymell has been playing in Melbourne for local side Deepdene Bears CC throughout the course of the winter.

The group have been working alongside Mick Lewis since the new year with access to facilities at Victoria’s Junction Oval.

Another familiar face has also spent time in Melbourne this winter with Anthony McGrath joining the Melbourne Renegades coaching team for their BBL 12 campaign.

The opportunity was a chance for the players to hone their skills in one of the best cricketing environments in the world with intense training programmes covering batting, bowling, fielding, and fitness.

The group have returned home to the UK and will be joining the full First Team squad for the pre-season camp to Abu Dhabi which begins on Monday.

The Club would like to thank Cricket Victoria for their warm welcome and hosting Jamie, Ben, Paul, Josh, Aaron and Anthony McGrath this winter.
