Match Report:

Both Essex and Kent fielded strong sides for their Second XI T20, South Group encounter at Chelmsford, with the home side coming out on top by 46 runs.

Having been invited to bat, Paul Walter and Matt Critchley displayed decent form, helping Essex to 224 for four.

Walter’s 78 came from just 37 balls during a 44-minutes stay at the crease and included six 6s and six 4s. Meanwhile, Critchley contributed an unbeaten 73 off 44. The pair put together a 151-run fourth wicket stand.

The Kent response started brightly, with skipper MK O’Riordan and TS Muyeye putting together 96 for the first wicket. Muyeye’s 51 came off 30 deliveries, while O’Riordan reached 41. Both fell victim to Critchley, who returned figures of two for 32.

Essex’s Simon Harmer was also amongst the wickets, taking 2/20 from his three-over spell.
