Players spread Christmas cheer at Broomfield Hospital

On Wednesday 06 December, a seven-strong contingent of Essex players and coaches visited two children’s wards at Broomfield Hospital to give out presents ahead of Christmas.

Captain Tom Westley and Head Coach Anthony McGrath, along with Jamie Porter, Ben and Charlie Allison, Shane Snater, and Lead Physiotherapist Vishal Kanji, attended the hospital and met with in-patients across two wards.

They gifted miniature bats, soft balls, plush Eddie the Eagle cuddly toys, and chocolate selection boxes to the children and ward staff.

“We’re always keen to come down because we know how much of a tough time it must be to have children in hospital at Christmas,” said McGrath following the visit.

“Having children myself, seeing families go through that is not easy. It’s nice to see smiles on a few faces and to bring a bit of cheer, but it puts things into perspective.

“We wish the families all the best, and hopefully they can get through it together.”
