Jamie Porter agrees new deal

Seam bowler Jamie Porter has signed a contract extension with Essex that will keep him at the Club until the end of the 2027 season.

Porter, who has spent his entire career with Essex, has taken 504 all-format wickets for the Eagles, of which 447 have been in First-Class cricket at an average of 23.53.

The 30-year-old made his Essex debut in September 2014 against Kent, removing Darren Stevens for his maiden red-ball scalp with only his fifth delivery.

He went on to take at least 50 wickets in each of the following four seasons, including a dazzling haul of 85 at just 16.74 apiece in 2017, as the Eagles romped to a first Championship title in 25 years.

Last season, he claimed 57 red-ball victims, which was not only his best return since 2018, but also made him the third-most successful bowler, and second among seamers, in Division One.

Having committed his immediate future to the Club, Porter said: “It feels great to sign an extension with Essex, a club that I love playing for.

“I’ve developed massively as a cricketer during the decade I’ve spent here, played with some fantastic teammates, and had a lot of fun over the years.

“There’s been a lot of change this winter in the squad, but I still believe we have one of the strongest groups in the country and I’m looking forward to playing a big part in the years ahead!”

Head Coach, Anthony McGrath, added: “Jamie’s resilience spoke for itself last year as, after a tough couple of seasons with injury, he re-established himself as one of the best bowlers in the country.

“We’ve known all about his quality for years, so we were delighted for him when it all came together again last summer.

“Now, as one of our senior bowlers, we’re hoping he can replicate that form again to both make us successful and provide inspiration to our younger players.”
