Women gear up for first Cloud County Ground outing of 2024

The glut of 50-over cricket in Chelmsford over the next month continues to gather steam, as Essex Women return to The Cloud County Ground for the first time in 2024 on Friday.

Paul Davidge’s side will take on rivals Kent in a London Championship 50-over encounter from 11:00am, with entry priced at just £5 for adults and free for juniors.

The Eagles recently defeated the very same opponents by a convincing nine wickets just under two weeks ago, chasing a modest target of 135 with a huge 26.1 overs to spare.

Now, captained by Kelly Castle, Friday’s hosts will be determined to repeat that result in their second London Championship outing of the season.

After winning this competition in 2023, Essex currently sit fourth in the standings, but having played fewer games than all those above them, including two matches in hand on Middlesex.

School’s out, cricket’s in: 50-over cricket in Chelmsford this summer

White-ball action at The Cloud County Ground continues into July and August as the Metro Bank One-Day Cup gets underway.

The competition has not only recently proven itself to be wide open and highly competitive, but also a breeding ground for the next generation of elite cricketers.

With all matches set to take place during the school summer holidays, each fixture makes a perfect family day out in the heart of Chelmsford.
