Essex represented in showpiece DPL final

Words: Brian Jeeves

Essex will be well-represented at this year’s Disability Premier League final which sees the England Disability Tridents and Pirates face off at Glamorgan’s Sophia Gardens ground ahead of England’s T20 clash with Australia later in the day.

Leg-spinner Alfie Jeeves (Tridents) and all-rounder Joe Moss (Pirates) have been selected in their side’s respective final squads.

Both have contributed to their sides reaching the final and will be keen to taste further success in a competition that continues to evolve at a rate of knots.

The Disability Premier League (DPL) – now in its third year – is the first tournament of its kind, encompassing players across three different impairment groups.

The Black Cats, Hawks, Pirates and Tridents played out a series of round-robin league matches throughout late August and early September in Oundle, Neston, and Loughborough, with the top two teams heading to Cardiff.

Jeeves finished the county season as the highest wicket-taker in the country, while Moss was once again amongst the runs and wickets, as well as displaying his leadership qualities when handed the Essex captaincy on several occasions.

Experienced Essex duo Joe Freestone and Ronnie Jackson also featured prominently in the competition, representing the Black Cats and the Hawks, respectively.

Friday’s final in the Welsh capital will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, with coverage starting from 11:55 am. The respective squads were selected ahead of the tournament as follows;
