Just a decade ago, live streaming the domestic game was almost unimaginable for most counties. Now, as the 2025 season approaches, it has become a vital part of the county cricket experience for Members, supporters, and staff.
Ten years ago, the live streaming of the domestic game was not something that had even been contemplated by the majority of the counties, but as the 2025 season looms large on the horizon, such streams have become an integral element of the county cricket experience for Members, supporters and staff alike.
Over the seasons, live stream production has evolved from an 8am embargo of the previous day’s clips to award winning live multi-camera professional broadcast productions, and 2024 saw a record number of views.
Last summer, more than 30 million views were collectively recorded from the live streams of all 18 first class counties.
Essex Highlights:
• Two million views across the domestic season on Essex Cricket TV with the County Championship accounting for over 700,000 of the viewers.
• A peak of 19,000 concurrent viewers watching at the same time as the Eagles defeated Kent Spitfires in the Vitality Blast.
• The first full stream of a women’s domestic game between Essex and Kent at Chelmsford as we gear up for the inaugural Women’s Tier One professional campaign.
The rapid evolution of county cricket live streams reflects extraordinary growth in a relatively short time, driven by the vision and commitment of those involved.
