Essex Cricket are pleased to welcome Jonathan Cummings who has been co-opted as a new member of the Essex County Cricket Club Board.
Born and raised in the county, Cummings has a lifelong association with cricket in the UK and around the world, including six years as a director of Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHKC), the governing body for the sport in the region. His appointment brings global experience in sports as well as business transformation skills to the Board as the Club looks to shape the next chapter of success on multiple fronts.
His tenure with CHKC saw a major governance change, transforming the organisation into a modern sports administrator able to better manage high growth at grass roots, especially in women’s cricket, as well as the ever-increasing demands of international cricket, with both the men’s and women’s teams ranking in the top 20 in the world.
Cummings is a successful business leader and brand consultant, building one of the world’s most notable independent brand consultancies before acquisition by WPP saw him take on a global leadership role as APAC President of Landor, the world’s leading brand consultancy.
Jonathan and his team were involved in shaping major brands across the world such as the Virgin Group, Huawei and BMW, including many in the sports sector such as the Australian Open, Wembley Stadium, New York Rangers, The R&A and multiple Olympic Games.
Club Chair Anu Mohindru said, “I’m delighted to add Jonathan to the Board. He brings a unique set of skills and experience to the Club, adding further to what is already a diverse and vastly experienced Board.
“We have an exciting period ahead of us with the first season of the Women’s Professional Tier One cricket, a major ground redevelopment project as well as continuing to expand our work in the community and the development of player pathways.
“Jonathan has been working with us for the past two years refreshing the brand to better reflect the contemporary shape and widespread activities of Essex Cricket and I’m looking forward to working with him across a broader range of projects going forward.”
Jonathan Cummings commented: “I’m thrilled to join the Board of Essex County Cricket Club at such an important and exciting time for the Club and for the sport as a whole.
“Having grown up playing cricket in the county, it’s a real honour for me and I’m excited about the work ahead. The launch of the Women’s Tier One this year is a major milestone and I’m looking forward to seeing this grow and build on the fantastic work being achieved in the women’s game.
“Our men’s first team under the supervision of returning Head Coach Chris Silverwood will be challenging for trophies on all fronts. Our community work across the region is incredible and I look forward to seeing that go from strength to strength.
“Off the pitch, the business of county cricket is always challenging, but there are many important projects ahead and I look forward to supporting CEO Dan Feist and his team in whatever way I can.”
