Match Report:

Essex and Surrey got the D40 T10 Cup underway at the 1st Central County Ground with a well-contested encounter that entertained the enthusiastic crowd.

Essex, who included several guest players, posted 76 for four from their ten overs. Skipper Joe Moss carried the fight, scoring 44 off 27 balls. His entertaining innings included three 4s and as many 6s. Michael O’Mahony, 2-0-14-2, and Matt Harris, 2-0-15-2, were the pick of the Surrey attack.

Surrey reached their target inside seven overs. Wicketkeeper/batter Johnathan Gale led the way with 33 off 18, while fellow opener Mark Pilkington contributed a further 31 before he was caught on the rope by Jack Flower off a ball from Alfie Jeeves. Jeeves finishing with 1.3-0-9-1.

Match Report:

Hampshire recorded an eight-wicket victory over Sussex, booking a place in the final against Surrey. Meanwhile, Essex faced the hosts in the shield final, with Moss winning the toss and electing to bowl.

It proved to be another tough test for the Essex side, who battled gamely against another strong outfit.

Sussex posted a sizable 119 for one, with Owen Piper impressively hitting 61 off 31 balls. Moss claimed the solitary Essex wicket, bowling Scott Ridge for 33.

The chase was always going to be a tall order for Essex. Moss scored 20, while Gaskin was unbeaten on 21*. But their efforts were in vain as Essex slipped to their second defeat of the day.

Hampshire edged Surrey out by five runs in an exciting final, concluding a terrific day of cricket expertly hosted by Sussex and thoroughly enjoyed by players and spectators alike.

Martyn Doe’s maiden unbeaten half-century carried Essex Falcons towards an impressive six-wicket D40 Pursuit South East victory over a strong Isle of Wight side at Newclose.

Doe’s 50* came off 47 balls and included eight 4s. Andrew Mowatt contributed 41 from 40, and Isaac Elles 31 off 28, helping the visitors chase down their target inside thirty-one overs. Kayton Evans with bowling figures of 6-0-42-2 for the home side.

Earlier, the Isle of Wight posted a competitive 182 for nine, with skipper A Cotton leading the way, hitting 72 off 83 balls. His innings included nine 4s and one 6.

Benny Fryett performed superbly with the ball, returning figures of 8-1-25-3, while Matthew Thomas had 8-4-17-2 in what was a terrific all-round team performance.
