Match Report:
Essex Falcons concluded their D40 Pursuit South East campaign on a high with a six-wicket victory over Sussex at Harlow Town Cricket Club.
The game was only one over old when the heavens opened and a downpour threatened to bring a very early conclusion. However, the umpires and teams were patient and waited it out, and a 20-over match was possible once everything dried out.
Lee Wheeler led the way with the ball for the home side, returning impressive bowling figures of 4-1-16-3, and Olly Kennedy finished with 4-0-7-1. Meanwhile, Benny Fryatt, Alex Roper and Joel Barker got in on the act as the visitors were restricted to 71 for nine from their 20 overs, the bowlers being backed up by some tight and energetic fielding – Booker top-scored for Sussex with an unbeaten 20*.
Essex reached their target inside fifteen overs, for the loss of four wickets. Fryatt’s unbeaten 34* came off 46 balls and included five 4s and one 6. Turner was the pick of the Sussex attack, with 4-0-17-2.
The game brought an end to the Essex Ability teams’ season. It has been a mixed season with some highs and lows, but all the players have shown great improvements over the season, and plans are already in place for the 2026 season.
