Shortlist announced for August’s Player of the Month

 

Essex Cricket can reveal the shortlist for August’s Player of the Month for the Men’s team.

It’s been a quieter month for Essex with many of our players off competing in The Hundred and there being no games for our Women’s team. However, that’s not stopped the Men’s Team. They’ve played in eight One-Day Cup matches this month with five wins, some incredible individual performances and 19 brilliant half-centuries and centuries.

We’ve narrowed these performances down to five outstanding players. We have left the final decision up to you, who do you think should take the title of Player of the Month? Vote below for your wefinanceanycar.com Men’s award.

The winning Men’s player will be announced at the upcoming County Championship game against Durham on Monday 8 September.

The Contenders

Charlie Allison

Charlie Allison, take a bow! Hitting 418 runs this month, it was impossible to leave Charlie out of the shortlist. The 20-year-old’s had an outstanding innings against Glamorgan hitting 131 in just 113 balls. He’s also had impressive half-centuries against Hampshire (80) and Derby (64). Although not bowling, Allison has also had his fair share of aiding in wicket taking, making catches off Bennett and Richard’s deliveries.

Luc Benkenstein

Luc has been on fire this month in both his batting and bowling. 303 runs for the all-rounder, with a high score of 83 made against Surrey. Benkenstein also made two other half-centuries with 75 and 74 against Leicestershire & Derby. The leg-spinner has made his mark field as well, taking 11 wickets and two catches. Leicestershire was Luc’s best bowling figures taking 3 wickets, with his final ending the game.

Charlie Bennett

What a month Bennett has had! From making his one-day debut against Nottinghamshire to getting a five-wicket haul. The right-arm seam bowler has taken 12 wickets across 7 games. His five-wicket haul against Surrey in front our home crowd proved how much of a threat Charlie is. In just 9.4 overs, he had an economy of 3.72 and ended the game with a LBW (also stopping a half-century).

Matt Critchley

Critchley has had his fair share of individual successes this month. Taking 12 wickets. wickets through three catches, one LBW, a stumping and bowling the leg stump. Matt has also been able to add to his teammates’ wicket hauls by taking 3 catches. A formidable player with the bat, Critchley has hit two half-centuries (58 & 64) and a century against Leicestershire (103).

Tom Westley

Tom Westley has dominated with his batting, getting half centuries against Hampshire (61), Leicestershire (53) and Gloucestershire (92) and then going on to hit an incredible 141 at home against Glamorgan and 118 away at Derby. He’s topped the Essex batting table this month with an incredible 561 runs. Tom has also had successes in the field, taking 7 wickets and catching 5 opposition players out too.
