Surrey Women v Essex Women
Metro Bank One Day Cup
The County Ground, Beckenham
Wednesday 10 September | 10:30am start

Following a strong all-round performance and victory against Bears Women on Sunday, Essex Women head to Beckenham to face Surrey in the penultimate fixture of the season.
Sunday’s victory in Birmingham was a display of all-round excellence from the Essex bowlers and batters who claimed a 27-run victory by DLS at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.
After rain reduced the game to 32 overs per side, Essex posted 235/7, led by Jo Gardner (47) and late hitting from Sophie Munro (36*) and Amara Carr (17*). Warwickshire captain Georgia Davis impressed with 4-35.
Chasing a revised target of 232, Warwickshire reached 204/8, with 18-year-old Amu Surenkumar scoring her maiden fifty (56). However, Essex bowlers Abtaha Maqsood (3-34) and Esmae MacGregor (3-38) dismantled the batting order.

Squad
A 13-player squad will travel to Beckenham for Wednesday’s match against Surrey Women.
Cordelia Griffith is unavailable with a minor muscle injury and Lissy Macleod is still ruled out post concussion. Both are being monitored carefully.

One of Our Own: Esmae MacGregor

Last Time We Met: Surrey Women
Surrey beat Essex back in May thanks to maiden half-centuries from Kalea Moore (66) and Ryana MacDonald-Gay (57), who rescued their side from 117/6 with a 113-run stand. Despite Eva Gray’s 5-52, Surrey posted 259/9, boosted by Alexa Stonehouse’s late runs.
Previous Lineups
Essex: Grace Scrivens (C), Lissy Macleod, Ariana Dowse, Sophia Smale, Jo Gardner, Amara Carr (WK), Maddie Blinkhorn-Jones, Eva Gray, Esmae MacGregor, Kate Coppack, Abtaha Maqsood.
Surrey: Phoebe Franklin, Priyanaz Chatterji, Amy Hunter, Alice Davidson-Richards, Kira Chathli (C & WK), Emma Jones, Kalea Moore, Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Alexa Stonehouse, Dani Gregory, Tilly Corteen-Coleman.
In Essex’s reply, Jo Gardner’s explosive 73 off 46* kept them in the chase after a steady 91-run partnership between Smale (42) and Ariana Dowse (44). But Surrey’s bowlers, led by leg-spinner Gregory (4-57) and MacDonald-Gay’s late double strike, sealed the win by dismissing the last two batters in consecutive balls.
Current Surrey squad: To be announced….

Surrey Preview
Coach: Johann Myburgh
Captain: Bryony Smith
The big questions: Surrey’s predecessors, the South East Stars, were consistently one of the strongest sides in the country, but only had one Charlotte Edwards Trophy to show for it. Will some exceptionally smart new signings in Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Alice Monaghan from the Southern Vipers help them convert a series of second and third-places into silverware?
Player to watch: Alice Capsey is the type of cricketer that can take a game away from the opposition with the bat and ball. After a difficult winter with England, the 20-year-old will be looking to get off to a strong start with her home county to consolidate her position as a key player for England moving forward.
Young Gun: Tilly Corteen-Coleman was The Hundred’s youngest-ever player when she made her debut for the Southern Brave last year, aged just 16. She was part of the Stars’ academy and instantly looked at home in the first team.
Final thought: Surrey have plenty of star quality with England players Alice Capsey, Sophia Dunkley, Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Ryana MacDonald-Gay no doubt eager to get to work back in domestic ranks after they were on the winter tour to Australia.
