
Essex Cricket can reveal the shortlist for September’s Player of the Month, for both the Men’s and Women’s teams.
What a final month of cricket September has been. The final seven matches of 2025 have now been played. The Women had a win against Warwickshire, losses to Hampshire and the Blaze and a draw with Surrey. The Men’s four-day campaign started with draws against Durham and Warwickshire and a final day win against Somerset to finish the season.
For the last time this season, it’s over to you. We want you to pick two Essex players who you thing deserve to win the Player of the Month Award. Let us know by scrolling down and choosing your favourites for the wefinanceanycar.com Men’s award and the Tiptree Women’s award.
The winning Men’s and Women’s player will be announced at the upcoming End of Season Awards Dinner on Tuesday 7 October with voting closing at midday on Friday 3 October.

The Contenders
Charlie Allison
Allison has impressed this month with a total of 190 runs. Charlie started off September with 33 runs against Durham with six boundaries. Against Warwickshire, Allison hit an incredible 98 runs off 175 deliveries in the only innings of the game. In the final game of the season, Charlie contributed in both the batting and fielding. Aiding in the wicket taking, Allison took a catch off Bennett and then ran out Leach for 1. With the bat, Charlie made 27 runs in the first innings and then finished the game with a brilliant six.


Matt Critchley
What a few games Critchley has had. From making a century in the first innings against Durham to being the final partnership of the season The match at against Durham, Matt came in at five to hit his 129 off 168 balls which included an incredible 18 boundaries. He also took a catch off Bracewell’s bowling. Critchley had a great batting stint against Warwickshire where he made 47 runs. Against Somerset he scored 29 and 19*, and with Allison secured that last day win at home.


Dean Elgar
Elgar was a force to be reckoned with against Durham. Our opening batter was on the pitch for over six hours, making 150 runs. He hit 18 boundaries, totalling almost half his score. Dean also took a catch in the second innings off Harmer’s bowling. In the match at Edgbaston, our opening batter made 48 runs, leading the team well to then go onto make 325/5. Dean was not done for the season, he then dominated against Somerset in the batting hitting an impressive 118 runs.


Jamie Porter
Jamie Porter, what a bowler! Our right-arm medium bowler did a lot of damage to Durham’s batting side at the start of the month, taking four wickets in the first innings and three in the second. His seven wickets were made up of three bowled, four LBWs. On top of that, he also took a run out. Against Somerset, Porter took another seven wickets and a catch off Harmer to get Somerset captain Gregory out. Four Jamie’s wickets came from the second innings where the team were able to get the visitors all out for 99.


Jo Gardner
Jo has totalled the highest run count this month with an impressive 95 over the 3 batting innings the team has faced. Her highest comes from the game against Warwickshire with 47 runs off 34 balls. Within the three matches she batted, Jo has hit 12 fours and 1 six. Gardner also took two catches off Maqsood and MacGregor in the match against Warwickshire helping the team win on DLS due to rain.


Eva Gray
In the field, Eva has been a force to be reckoned with. She’s helped the team in taking key wickets. This month, Gray has had six wicket involvements. In the game against Hampshire, she set up Naomi Dattani to be caught by Smale, caught two off MacGregor and Maqsood and then went onto be involved in two run outs. That wasn’t enough for Eva who then went on to aid in a run out against Surrey.


Esmae MacGregor
Esmae is in the shortlist for her bowling this month. Despite the weather, MacGregor has taken wickets in three matches. Against Hampshire, Esmae set up Gray to catch the opener and then also bowled their second batter. Warwickshire had the most wickets for MacGregor who bowled two and had one caught by Gardner. Her final wicket came against Surrey where she pitched it perfectly to get the batter dismissed for an LBW.


Sophie Munro
The right-arm medium bowler has two wickets to her name in September. Both wickets came in the win against Warwickshire with MacGregor and Smale making the catches. Munro has also been crucial to the team’s batting innings. In the first game of the month, Sophie made hit three 4s to add to her total of 28* off 19 balls. She then went one step further, facing another 19 balls and making 36*. In this innings Sophie, hit five 4s and a six.
