
Charlie Allison and Grace Scrivens scooped up three awards each, including the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Season awards respectively, at the 2025 Essex Cricket End of Season Awards Gala.
The 2025 Essex Cricket End of Season Awards were hosted by Victoria Polley and Robbie James at the Leonardo Royal Hotel in London on Tuesday, 07 October.
Tom Westley, Jamie Porter, Jordan Cox, and Charlie Allison were among the winners in the Men’s categories, while Esmae MacGregor, Eva Gray, and Grace Scrivens were recognised among the Women’s awardees.
Before the season’s awards were presented, a segment of the evening was dedicated to honouring two Essex heroes from the Men’s and Women’s teams – Nick Browne and Kelly Castle.
Browne received a Special Recognition Award and was presented with a ceremonial cap following his retirement from professional cricket, while Kelly Castle was announced as the first-ever capped Essex Women’s player.

Women’s September Player of the Month: Esmae MacGregor

MacGregor claimed six wickets in September as the weather washed away any chances of her taking anymore in the last game of the season against The Blaze.
Men’s September Player of the Month: Jamie Porter

Jamie Porter was unable to attend the evening so Chris Silverwood accepted the award on his behalf.
Our right-arm medium bowler damaged Durham’s batting at the start of the month, taking four wickets in the first innings and three in the second. His seven wickets were made up of three bowled, four LBWs. On top of that, he also took a run out.
Against Somerset, Porter took another seven wickets and a catch off Harmer to get Somerset captain Gregory out. Four Jamie’s wickets came from the second innings where the team were able to get the visitors all out for 99.
Women’s Young Player of the Year: Esmae MacGregor

MacGregor had an incredible debut season as the 21-year-old took a total of 40 wickets across 28 fixtures in all competitions and is one of our very own, born in Colchester, Essex.

The multi-format batter featured across all three competitions for the Club this season and whether it was the red or white-ball, looked comfortable at the crease.
Like MacGregor, Allison is also one of our very own, born in Colchester, Essex.
Women’s Bowler of the Year: Eva Gray

Gray claimed a total of 31 wickets at an average of 29 across 30 matches this season, with best figures of 5-52. She claimed two five-wicket hauls against both Warwickshire and Surrey – both at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground.

Porter took a total of 49 wickets at 20.57, he finished 5th in the Division One wicket-takers list. His season best figures of 6-52 against Worcestershire in April ensured victory at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground.
Predominantly a red-ball specialist, he chipped in with nine wickets in seven One Day Cup matches this season at an average of 24.55 with seasonal best figures of 4-29 away at Nottinghamshire.

Essex Women’s captain Grace Scrivens scored 643 runs across 25 innings this season which includes a high score of 120 not out against The Blaze. With one half-century and two-centuries batting at the top of the order.
Men’s Batter of the Year: Tom Westley

In 14 first-class matches this season, the Essex Club Captain scored 841 runs at an average of 40.04. His seasonal high score of 148 against Warwickshire was one of three centuries in this season’s Division One campaign, after back-to-back centuries of 130 not out and 107.
A brilliant One Day Cup campaign, leading the team from the front with 561 runs at a mammoth average of 70.12, including two centuries. This season he became the all-time leading run scorer in the One Day Cup competition.

Esmae took a total of 21 wickets in eleven Blast matches this season, the most across all counties throughout the group-stage, at a staggering average of 13.38 with best figures of 4-8.
Her performances throughout the season deservedly earned her a place in this year’s Hundred competition.

In eight One Day Cup matches this season, Charlie scored 418 runs at a mighty average of 52.25. His career-best List A score of 131 came in a 190-run win against Glamorgan at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground, which featured fifteen 4s and five 6s.

A disciplined display with the bat away from home which included eleven 4s and one 6 spending more than three hours at the crease. A brilliant unbeaten innings in which she carried her bat with 120 runs from 134 balls.

A versatile batter who has, in Division One both opened and slotted into the middle order, scored 735 runs in 12 first-class matches this season at an impressive average of 38.68.
His high score of 140 at The Oval against Surrey was his maiden first-class century, and he went on to score two more thereafter.
Men’s Special Recognition Award: Nick Browne

Nick Browne is an incredibly popular individual and has been an integral part of the Club’s red-ball success in recent years. A much-loved member of the dressing room and who has rightly celebrated a testimonial year in 2025, it would be wrong not to acknowledge this individual, who, after 12 years of exemplary service to the Club, has decided to retire from the game.
Women’s Special Recognition Award: Kelly Castle

Kelly Castle has dedicated more than fourteen years to Essex Cricket, making a total of 131 appearances across all formats.
Making her debut in 2011, Castle is a trailblazer of the Women’s game in Essex, becoming the first Women’s professional player for Essex County Cricket Club and was announced as the first capped female player for Essex County Cricket Club.
