Mackenzie Jones Signs New Rookie Deal

Essex Cricket are pleased to announce that Essex Men’s Mackenzie Jones has signed a new rookie deal with the Club.

Jones, 20, has signed a new one-year rookie deal with Essex that will keep him at the Club until the end of October 2026.

The tall right-arm seam bowler made his first-class debut on 22 June against Hampshire at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground, where he took 1-57 from 13 overs. A month later, Jones made his T20 debut for the Club, also against Hampshire at Chelmsford, claiming 2-36 in a four-wicket victory.

A product of the Essex Academy, Jones has become a regular member of the Scotland Men’s squad after representing the Under 19s at the 2024 World Cup. From his three senior international matches for Scotland, he has taken five wickets, including figures of 3-55 against Nepal.

On signing his new deal, Jones said: “I am delighted to sign this extension with such a great club.

“Making my first class debut in 2025, as well as my T20 debut, was incredibly special – and the fact both came at home in front of our loyal Members and supporters in Chelmsford made it even better.

“It was tough spending time out injured last season, but I want to thank the coaches for giving me the opportunity to join up with the first team, and I am hungry for more.

“I cannot wait to get going again ahead of the 2026 season, and I am excited to begin winter preparations ahead of the new year.”

Essex Cricket’s Chief Executive Officer, Dan Feist said: “It is really pleasing to see Mackenzie sign this contract extension with the Club.

“He has shown real maturity in his first season in the senior and has performed well when selected. Mackenzie is another great example of an Academy player progressing through our system and going on to make his first team debut.

“Additionally, seeing him step up on the international stage with Scotland at his age shows the character he has, and we look forward to seeing how far he can go with them.

“It was unfortunate that he spent a period of time injured this season, but he showcased his talent during both his T20 and first-class debuts, and we are excited to see what he can produce in Essex colours next season.”
