Long-standing Essex Over-70s player Marcus Young is set to represent England in both the Silver Ashes and the Over-70s World Cup.
Young has been selected to play in two major international tournaments, travelling to Australia for the Silver Ashes before heading to New Zealand for the Over-70s World Cup.
A talented leg-spinner known for his deceptive googly and excellent control, Young is also a formidable batsman. He has been a key player for Essex Over-70s, who narrowly missed out on the national finals, with Marcus scoring five consecutive half-centuries while batting at number three.
Young’s selection continues a strong connection between Essex and cricketing talent from the Caribbean. His family originates from St. Vincent, a legacy many fans will remember through the distinguished career of Neil Williams. Now, Marcus will carry that tradition forward on the Over-70s international stage.
Everyone at Essex County Cricket Club will be cheering Marcus on as he prepares to take on the world’s best Over-70s players in Australia and New Zealand.
Unlike the professional game, senior players are expected to fund their own participation and travel expenses.
A London Transport bus driver, Marcus plays for Essex on his days off. To support him on this remarkable journey, a GoFundMe page has been set up for anyone who would like to contribute to his incredible achievement.
