Doug Bracewell joined Essex in the weeks leading up to the 2023 season following the injury to Will Sutherland.

The New-Zealander already had a taste of domestic cricket in the UK, signing for Northamptonshire in the summer of 2018 where he took 15 wickets to help the side gain promotion to Division One.

Bracewell came into the 2023 season off the back of a recall to the Test squad following his inclusion in the squad to face Sri Lanka in March, which saw him pick up 2 wickets, in a career of over 100 wickets in over 50 matches for his native New Zealand at the Test level.
