The Club can today announce that Matt Coles has joined Northamptonshire on loan for their next four County Championship Division Two matches.
Coles featured in the Club’s Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, but has found game time hard to come by in red-ball cricket, and will join Northamptonshire for their fixtures against Durham, Leicestershire, Sussex and Lancashire.
Ahead of his loan move, Coles said: “I’m really looking forward to getting down to Northamptonshire and playing some cricket.
“Essex have a strong squad with good depth, and it’s been frustrating not playing. I’ve been presented with a great opportunity to go to Northamptonshire on loan and hopefully during my loan spell I can show my class and help them win games of cricket.”
Essex Head Coach, Anthony McGrath said: “Matt is top bowler and deserves to be playing cricket week in, week out.
“It’s a shame we haven’t got space for him in our squad at the moment, but I’m sure he’s going to benefit hugely from the loan spell and will take plenty of wickets for Northants.”
